Night drainage

Getting a good night’s sleep is not always straightforward for people living with a urostomy. So do check out the recording of our ‘Ask the Experts’ webinar and hear from speakers as they explore the types of night bags available, and share hints and tips that could help with your night time routine. The event, kindly sponsored by Coloplast Ltd, was held on 14 November 2024.

Speakers include:

Anna Cooper – “My name is Anna & I am a 31 year old wife and mum to a little girl. I suffer with stage 4 endometriosis which led me to losing my bladder and large bowel and needing a permanent ileostomy and urostomy as a result of the damage the condition has done.

I co-founded a charity called Menstrual Health Project alongside my best friend Gabz in order to better education and awareness of conditions like endometriosis. I wanted to do my part to stop the next generation coming up against such dismissal and misinformation when it came to their menstrual health.”

Brian Fretwell – “I had my bladder removed after a diagnosis of bladder cancer in March 2011. I found the Urostomy Association, particularly the Journal magazine and the peer support, invaluable when I was first diagnosed. Once I had retired, I joined the NEC in 2013. My 41-year career gave me extensive experience in the private and public sectors, including the NHS. I aim to use those skills in support of the charity.”

Paul Russell-Roberts – “With nearly 25 years of experience in surgical nursing, my journey has been dedicated to improving patient care and empowering both patients and nurses. Since becoming a Stoma Care Nurse Specialist in 2011, I’ve been passionate about developing protocols, policies, and digital platforms that make a real difference in the lives of ostomates. Digital communication and media are close to my heart, and I’m always looking for innovative ways to enhance patient care through technology.

I’ve had the pleasure of publishing extensively on the use of assessment tools within stoma care and the importance of language and communication. Education is a true passion of mine, and I love sharing knowledge that can make a difference. I’m here to provide insights, answer your questions, and help you feel more confident and informed about your healthcare journey.”
