As many of our members know, stoma care can vary widely depending on where you live. So, in a bid to address this postcode lottery and help ‘level up’ provision, we recently joined forces with fellow charities the Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Association and Colostomy UK at a Parliamentary reception to lobby MPs and Peers about this.
The event, organised by company Coloplast UK, launched the ‘Calls to Action’ statement based on research findings from people living with a stoma who shared their experience to help make things better for others facing surgery or recovering after it.
Using the ‘Calls to Action’ statement as a ‘baton’, participants in the relay run organised to coincide with the event followed a scenic route along the River Thames before passing the baton to reception host, Giles Watling MP, directly outside of Parliament. There at the event to represent people with a urostomy, UA Chief Executive Hazel Pixley held the finishing-line ribbon, welcoming the runners as they completed the race.
A big thank-you to all our members who took part in the research that underpins the ‘Calls to Action’. Your responses are part of making sure everyone with a stoma gets the high-quality care they deserve, no matter where in the UK they happen to live.
