NAGM 2025

The Urostomy Association’s national AGM will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday 22 November 2025 at 10.00am. We are holding the event online to enable as many members as possible to take part, and to keep everyone’s costs down. We do apologise if this might prove difficult for some people to attend, but everyone is still able to vote if they wish.

We would also like to take this opportunity to update you on two trustees:

Julie Varley with Brian Fretwell (right) and Martin Oxley (left)

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to Julie Varley. Julie has spent 10 years as a Trustee of the Association and during that time she has been a members’ representative, an important role bridging the gap between branches and the NEC.

She has been very active in this role and will be missed. Julie says that she will miss the interaction with branches  – but not the traveling! Julie has in the ten year period worked with Cambridge, Manchester, Norwich, Newcastle, Sheffield and Yorkshire & Humberside branches.

Julie will continue as a member of the Sheffield and District Branch committee.

Julie has also been a true supporter of the change we have gone through these past few years. We wish Julie well and thank her for all her hard work and input to the workings of the Association.

Gill Thomas

Secondly, we would like to introduce you to Gill Thomas who joined the NEC this year. She kindly shares the following biography:

“I have had my urostomy since June 2024, following a bladder cancer diagnosis. Throughout this challenging journey, I found the Urostomy Association, particularly peer support, invaluable.

Having recovered from surgery, I am now keen to use my professional knowledge and skills to support others. I have many decades experience in law, governance, and commerce both in the private and public sectors, particularly the NHS. I have also been a charity trustee since the 1990s. Since my surgery I have become a volunteer with the UA and treasurer of the Cambridge branch.

The work of the UA in providing information and support to those contemplating or who have had surgery for a urostomy is amazing. it would be a privilege to play a part in the continuing success of the charity.

On a personal note, I have three young grandchildren who keep me busy. I run, do Pilates and yoga to try and remain fit and keep up with them! I am also training to be a coach and have a particular interest in supporting people who have had ostomy surgery.”
