With 8th March being International Women’s Day, we want to say a big thank-you to UA’s hugely dedicated Chief Executive Hazel Pixley, who leads our national charity with vision, integrity and compassion.
As CEO, Hazel is overseeing – and getting hands-on with – all the improvements we’re making to enhance the services we provide for everyone who needs us.
In this very challenging economic climate, it’s tougher than ever for small charities like ours to survive, but Hazel and the small (yet mighty!) team she leads are working even more closely with our members, as well as healthcare professionals, so that we thrive for many years to come.
Hazel, who has a urostomy herself so can identify and empathise with others in this situation, said: “From my own experience, I know having surgery to create a urinary diversion is life-changing, so it’s vital people going through this have a trusted source of information and support at what can feel like a very anxious and uncertain time for them and their family.
It’s a privilege to lead the Urostomy Association, which is all about supporting people as individuals rather than as one homogenous group of ‘people with a stoma’, and I’m excited about the way we are evolving to keep meeting the needs of our growing community.
