Shropshire, Wales and the Marches Branch was formed in 2007 to offer support to urostomists living in, but as the Branch name states not limited to, the English-Welsh borders and all of North and Mid Wales, including the remoter areas. The original area has now spread to cover most of Wales apart from the far south. Covering such a large geographical area our Branch works hard to address the problem of maintaining close contact with all its membership. Our Secretary’s Report is circulated three times a year to coincide with Branch meetings at which several of the suppliers of ostomy-related products regularly display their products. Whenever manufacturers and suppliers arrange promotional events within our area you will almost always find someone from our Branch in attendance.

Branch meetings are normally held three times a year at the Uplands Care Home, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, but please note that the July 6th meeting will commence at 12 midday with a free buffet lunch. The final Shrewsbury meeting of the year will be on November 16th, and we also hold one meeting a year in North Wales, and one in South Wales.

The meetings are a social event, an opportunity to meet old, and make new, friends and enabling anyone who may so wish to discuss problems and solutions. Our Branch President, who is also the immediate past president of the UA, attends each meeting whenever his busy schedule allows, as does the specialist stoma nurse from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Their specialist knowledge and advice are invaluable. Guest speakers on a whole range of topics usually feature on the agenda.

Wherever we can and whenever sufficient support is forth-coming we will try to arrange additional events at locations anywhere within our area to bring the Branch that bit closer to those for whom the journey to Shrewsbury is not an option but who would welcome some direct involvement.
