Summer 2021, issue 122

From the editor

Firstly, my special thanks to some people who have responded to my requests for editorial assistance – Tony Wilson, Chris Carruthers have both stepped forward, and of course I still have Katie Sainsbury and Jane Philips to thank for compiling our regular Caught in the Net feature. A couple of years ago, when our National Executive began to make plans for this, our 50th Anniversary Year, I also began to make plans, for a Special Edition of this magazine, to be published quite separately from our usual Spring, Summer and Autumn editions. My plan was for this to be a bumper publication, packed with reports of all of the celebration events that were planned – tea parties all over the country, Sharon Fillingham’s Pier-trotters Challenge etc. Well, history will record that COVID-19 has put paid to most of those plans, so instead, I have tried to make this Summer 2021 edition as special as it can be, with tributes to our founder, the late Val Kings MBE, messages from her husband Alf and from people who worked with her, as well as contributions from past National Presidents and others. My thanks to everyone who has taken the time to make a contribution.
